Pastoral Council
One of the renewed concepts that emerged from the Second Vatican Council is that of shared responsibility among laity, religious and clergy.

PURPOSE

The Parish Pastoral Council of St. Eugene Parish exercises shared responsibility for the pastoral life of the parish under the leadership of the Pastor. The Parish Pastoral Council is a consultative and advisory group who assists the Pastor in the Pastoral care of the Parish.

TASKS
to research the needs, ideas and hopes of the faith community;
to encourage and support existing ministries;
to evaluate the quality of life in the faith community;
to plan for the parish's future by recommending policies, procedures and programs that will carry on the Church's mission in the parish and the surrounding neighborhood.

COMPOSITION

The Parish Pastoral Council is composed of members of the pastoral staff and members of the parish, under the leadership of the pastor.

STRUCTURE

Besides the members already described, the structure of our Parish Pastoral Council also includes Four Commissions:
Parish Life Commission
Human Concerns Commission
Spiritual Life Commission
Education Commission

These Commissions are composed of interested parishioners and their membership is approved by the Council.

The Commissions are accountable to the Council and act in accord with the goals, policies and procedures set by the Council.

Within these policies, each of the ministries which flow from one of the four Commissions, are free to operate in their own legitimate competencies.

St. Thomas More (1478-1535) said:
"Attempts to be virtuous that are joined to disobedience to the will of God,
no matter how good they may appear,
will actually work for our damnation."
